REVIEW | Luke Cage Season 1

Season 1 of Luke Cage has come and gone in the last month and so has Daredevil and Jessica Jones. With Daredevil the grittier version of CW's Arrow and Jessica Jones being a detective noir, there seemed to be unsure feeling of what to expect from Luke Cage's tone. Was this going to be a pure action show or even a drama? The answer is both an Action and Drama show. That combination brought us [SPOILERS AHEAD]:

  • A Luke Cage character that we could relate with looking for a direction in life after a MAJOR change
  • 2 street level villains including MAJOR villain, Diamondback, in the MCU that could rival some of villains in CW's Arrow such as Count Vertigo or even team with Daredevil's Kingpin (Imagine that ...)
  • A cliffhanger tying Daredevil with Luke Cage with his arrest
THE VERDICT: This is a show that offer truly original content on Netflix with an Origin story that while it uses the same Super Serum that Captain America uses, it has a different take on how Luke Cage acquires his abilities. What Luke does after that by returning to his city of Harlem after exacting Seagate Prison to remain a street level hero as opposed to Captain America is just as enjoyable.
